The story
A hidden gem with the world on a single plate
Cato by Cato started as a small deli on a side street in Maastricht. What began modest grew into a fixed stop for students, professors, locals and anyone tired of the standard lunch sandwich.
The kitchen at Cato knows no borders. A Sri Lankan curry can sit next to a Moroccan couscous, with a Filipino halo-halo on the side. Not as a trick, but because the world is bigger than one cooking tradition and honest flavours can come from anywhere.
Every morning we cook fresh. When it's gone, it's gone. That also means the menu is never the same — and that is exactly the point.
Cato himself stands in the shop six days a week. Explaining a dish, letting you taste, switching between Dutch and English — that isn't extra. That is the place.
